A section which includes 2 lengths of disused railway, converted for recreational use with some care for landscaping.
1. Rowfant to East Grinstead (4 miles)
On reaching road at Rowfant (GR 326370), turn left. After 250 yards, about 30 yards after passing the start of a road to the right to Rowfant Sawmills and Business Centre, turn right along a gravel-surfaced path which passes to left of small pond and squeezes to left of an automatically operated metal gate. Go forward for 30 yards, then turn left along path which ramps up to and follows old railway track bed eastwards. After a little over a mile, at road junction by ‘Royal Oak’ pub, turn right and, where road curves right, continue ahead along Sandhill Lane. Curve left with lane and where it divides, fork left along Burleigh Lane. Where lane ends at gateway to Burleigh House, go over stile to left of gateway and follow right edge of three fields. Cross track via two stiles and go ahead beside left-hand fence, Cross plank bridge over stream and go ahead along left edge of two fields. In second field, where hedge boundary turns away left, go ahead across field, through gap and on across second field. When in line with buildings of Tilkhurst Farm, about 150 yards away to left, turn sharply left along wide unfenced grass strip between two fields. Maintain direction on faintly defined path across next field, passing to left of pond. Carry on across another field to join old railway. Turn right to follow path along railway track bed to East Grinstead.. (Revised February 2010)
2. East Grinstead to West of Dry Hill (3.5 miles)
From East Grinstead Station follow described route of Mid Sussex Link - East Grinstead to Weir Wood (section 3 below) as far as GR 398379, about 200 yards past East Grinstead Church on your left, then turn left along B2110 (College Lane). Cross bridge over bypass in cutting. After 50 yards, turn right along Estcots Drive and immediately go left along access drive to Council Offices. After 50 yards, fork right along narrow lane. After passing houses, continue along narrow path behind housing estate. Pass to right of pond and continue along well-trodden path, soon with stream on left. After crossing footbridge, fork left, still with houses on right at first. At T-junction with tarmac drive, turn left out to A 264 at GR 409395. Turn left for a few yards, then turn right along signed path, soon veering which slightly right downhill across undulating area of patchy grass and scrub to enter woodland. Cross plank bridge and stile and head NE across field, aiming for gap in far corner. Cross two stiles and driveway and continue on same bearing across another field. On the far side, go through gateway with stile beside it into woodland with pond on right. In 150 yards, ignore track to right, then cross stream, curve right with main track and climb to road. Turn right. About 80 yards short of Old Surrey Hall which faces you, turn left along fenced path which skirts to left of garden. Bear left and climb within hollow way. Where track opens out, turn right along narrow sunken path. Keep left of pylon and continue between banks to road at GR 424406 and turn left.

3. Mid-Sussex Link
East Grinstead to Weir Wood Reservoir

From East Grinstead Railway Station take road eastwards past Mid-Sussex Timber Co. warehouses on left. At mini-roundabout bear right along London Road and at second mini-roundabout left along High Street. Pass East Grinstead church on left. On reaching major roundabout go right on access track leading down to Forest Way on old railway. Follow railway track bed southwards. In about 1 mile at first bridge over railway (GR 408365) climb to road and follow it downhill towards reservoir. Just short of where road ends at ‘Horseshoe Farm‘, take narrow bridleway to right. At bottom cross footbridge and go ahead along right edge of two fields. Head half left across third field, aiming to right of house. Go through gate in far right corner on to track and turn left. Bear right and left keeping to right of buildings at ‘Busses Farm‘. Beyond gate, follow enclosed path to reach edge of Weir Wood Reservoir. Turn right to follow perimeter path and fence, then lane to road junction at GR 383348. Turn left. (Revised Jan 2010)
